Here's a general sizing chart for picking the right paddle. Remember, for recreational paddling and not marathon racing, it's not mind-blowingly critical that the paddle be sized to within millimeters of the "perfect" size. "Close" is fine. And, if while you are paddling the whole blade of the paddle is NOT in the water, you need a bit longer paddle. If the blade PLUS 3-6" of handle is in the water during a normal stroke, you'll most likely find a shorter paddle is less awkward to use. IF you prefer to use a paddle that is taller than the top of your head because you saw someone else use that huge goofy thing in Maine - there's no helping you. If it works and you're happy, that's fine by me.
