Refinishing Carbon Tec Souris Rivers?
Q. Joe,
Since I like swimming with bow legged women I do care about how my canoe looks on the outside. Can you tell me how long SR has been making the carbon tecs? What they look like after normal use, what color are the scratches? Any idea on how they clean up after a few years? I know the
I also see you rate them in the middle for toughness over the duralite. Would you also say that is true after a few years? I am afraid I will need to trade up to the 18 footer in five years.
One last question, I know sometimes retailers will offer an additional discount for cash/check versus credit card, do you do this?

They've been making carbon tecs since January 2000. The scratches are white. They refinish about equally as well as a Le Tigre kevlar SR. After refinishing they look really nice from about 3 feet away. Toughness appears to remain unchanged. We have customers who've owned Carbon Tec's since the beginning and they are still going strong. Durability remains the same. They oxidize the same way as all SR's can but that is generally resolved with a little sanding & varnish which also take care of the 10 zillion white scratches in the process. We do not offer discounts in card vs. check/cash. We tend to prefer credit cards. No checks to lose, no cash laying around out here in the woods where we might have to shoot it out with a yahoo... Hoping that never happens...
