Souris River Canoes are a better choice for those seeking lighter weight, forgiving canoes...AND they're not ugly like those Brand X wonders. Whoever said you can't have a good looking, lightweight, resilient kevlar canoe?

Souris River makes kevlar canoes that are built with epoxy resin that can flex repeatedly without falling apart. No other kevlar canoes are built like this! Also, without having to test paddle canoe after canoe, if you are looking for stability, controlability on the water, and realistic freeboard, a Souris River Quetico 17 is really hard to beat!
Some facts about canoes: |
-
Weak resin makes weak canoes. It's not the kevlar cloth - it's the resin that is a major contributing factor to kevlar canoe fragility.
-
Stability comes ONLY from the shape of the canoe's hull - NOT the materials from which it is made.
-
Racing canoes are tippy relative to general purpose canoes. If you're not into winning races, don't get a racing-oriented canoe.
-
Canoes that slice through waves efficiently tend take on water when it gets rough.
-
Canoes that ride up and over waves usually leave racing canoes sitting on shore when it gets rough out.
-
Canoes that are more apt to bounce off of rocks or survive a drop with minimal or no damage make one's life easier.
-
If all the salesman talks about is hull efficiency & performance and doesn't know a thing about fishing, that may not be the right canoe for you.
-
Unless you really like tractor seats, don't buy a canoe that has them - they're not comfortable.
-
If you can't place your feet side by side to each other when sitting in the bow seat, you're sitting in a canoe that has racing lines.
-
If the canoe you are looking at has a large diamond-shaped sheet of foam in the bottom or any other large sheet of foam in it, it's not a canoe made with epoxy resin.
