The Tranquility is a different
kind of solo. Unlike what you're apt to see in the canoe world
of "adapted" racing solo hulls, the Souris River Tranquility
offers features designed for wilderness travel taking into account
rough flat water and payload capacity. It tracks straight and
turns best if you lean it and sweep. It also handles beautifully
when you lay it up against a quartering wind and paddle hard (matching
the strength of the wind) & straight on the leeward side. It flies
down the lake. One of the greatest features is it's freeboard.
With a good-sized paddler and a load, the Tranquility offers substantially
more freeboard than a lot of solos out there today. Good stablity
ratio but it will take you a bit to get used to the "feel".
It also holds its ground in a wind and does not tend to blow around.
The Tranquilty's seat is located off-center to aid in directional
control by using leverage (either wind or paddler) to one's advantage.
Centered-seat-solos unlike the Tranquility, allow equal pressure
from the wind on the canoes bow and stern. This minimizes the
paddler's ability to use the wind to an advantage, plus they are
much more difficult to portage. Where do you put the yoke and
then your head? Like all solos, we recommend you paddle the Tranquility
to see if it fits your paddling style because not every solo fits
everybody. After renting the Tranquility out however, the customer
feedback has been VERY positive. It's becoming the popular wilderness
solo canoe.
Exciting NEW detail: The Tranq is available with a new rudder package designed by Souris River! It makes it easier to turn, hold a line and you can paddle on the same side of the canoe forever! Adds about 5 lbs of weight to canoe. $275 for factory installed rudder package.
