Red Rock's Try/Buy
for Souris River Canoes

Now there are two easy ways to test paddle a Souris River Canoe before you buy it. Here are the guidelines:

Plan #1- Red Rock Rental Try/Buy Option (Other Outfitter Plan below)

Step 1: Reserve a Souris River Quetico 17 (or other SR model-we only rent Quetico's) from Red Rock Wilderness Store for your Boundary Waters Canoe trip (See Red Rock Outfitting Rates)

Step 2: Take your canoe trip.

Step 3: Finish up your trip and return the canoe.

Step 4: Upon return of the canoe, buy a new Souris River canoe of the same model and we refund your rental money paid in full by discounting the new canoe by the amount of money you paid for the rental. If you decide not to buy a canoe upon return, you are simply out the rental money you paid up front.

Red Rock Try/Buy Stipulations:

1. The Red Rock rental canoe you used must be returned in normal rental condition. If you damaged the canoe while "testing it out" beyond ordinary wear and tear (you're going to scratch it and we know that, that's normal) we will bill you for damage repairs or the replacement of that rental canoe.

2. Please limit Try/Buys to rentals of 7 days or less. Honestly, If you can't tell how the canoe works out for you within the first 3 days of your canoe trip, a 25 day BWCA trip will also tell you nothing. Maybe you need to buy a motorcyle, a golf cart, or a llama instead.

3. In order to apply your rental payment for a Try/Buy, you need to buy a canoe on the final day or the very next day of your canoe trip rental so please plan accordingly. We will not carry a credit for you to purchase a canoe next week, next month or next year. Simply put, if after 3 or more days paddling the canoe, you still aren't sure it's the right fit, you aren't ready to buy yet. Go test some more models and chalk up your rental payment to a great BWCA canoe trip.

4. We do not allow combining rental payments of several rental canoes to the purchase of one canoe. One canoe rental applied to one new canoe purchase.

Reverse Try/Buy Variation: You buy the canoe from us (pay in full) first with the option of bringing it back and being charged a rental fee plus administration fee (refunding is not free and costs us money) for the days you used the canoe. This suits customers who have long-distance entry points and want to cut out driving. In this variation, you would be charged a minimum rental rate and an administration fee for returning the canoe for a refund. These rates are deducted out of your refund of the initial canoe purchase price.

To illustrate: Instead of renting a canoe from us and having to return it and then pick up your new canoe (all that driving), you simply buy the new canoe you want up front. You then, at the end of your canoe trip, would have the option of bringing it back for a refund and being charged a rental rate and an administration fee instead. The rental rates that we charge are a bit higher for short duration canoe trips (1-3 days) because we now have scratched up, used canoe. There is also an administration fee that covers our additional expenses in refunding your initial purchase.

Rental charges are as follows: Lets say you take it out for 1 day and scratch it all up (or scratch it up a little -doesn't matter, it's still used now), we will take the canoe back should you decide you don't want it to keep it afterall. We will refund the initial purchase price of the canoe less a minimum of 3 days rentals and a $50 administration fee. Rental rates will be based on our internet advertised rental rates at that time. The same would apply if you used the canoe 2 days - you'd still get charged for three (3) day's rental. If you were out for 7 days, you would be charged for 7 days rental on that canoe and a $50 administration fee. At very least, your refund for the canoe would be your purchase price less the minimum rental and administration fee unless you ended up keeping the canoe longer then 3 days. In this case your refund would be the purchase price less the days rented plus the administration fee.

Reverse Try/Buys must take place at the end of your canoe trip (usually 3 to 7 days in length or so). You cannot keep the canoe for an extended period and then expect a refund minus rental charges, so don't come back in three weeks, months, or years and expect us to refund you after applying rental charges and the admin fee. We are offering a Try/Buy option that nobody else on the planet offers. Please don't plan on dickering, abusing, or otherwise manipulating this option. This is not hard to understand so feigning ignorance or suddenly becoming illiterate will not work either.

Bearing in mind the potential for minimum rental fees being charged along with the administration fee upon your return of a Reverse Try/Buy canoe, this optional plan may suit you well. That being said, 99.9% of our customers take the canoe home with them for good (regular and reverse Try/Buy) which leads us to the conclusion that Try/Buys are more important in the minds of the buyer and not in actual reality. We understand this and we also know these canoes inside and out. We already know who they'll fit and how they will perform in all Boundary Waters conditions. But go ahead and prove it to yourself...if you must. The option is available.

Reverse Try/Buys are not available with a regular Try/Buy. Pick one or the other and then all deals are done.

Plan #2 - Other Outfitter Canoe Rental Try/Buy Option

Step 1: Rent a Souris River Canoe from your favorite outfitter. Save your canoe rental receipt because you'll need it to make this work.

Step 2: Go on a fabulous BWCA Canoe trip. May the sun shine and wind be on your back.

Step 3: Bring in your current canoe rental receipt to Red Rock immediately following your canoe trip and we'll deduct up to $150 off the purchase price of a new Souris River Canoe.

Other Outfitter Try/Buy Stipulations:

1. Other Outfitter Try/Buy refunds are limited to $150 maximum OR your total rental cost paid, whichever is less. If you only spent $94 dollars on a canoe rental, that's how much we'll deduct from the purchase price of a new Souris River Canoe. If you paid $473.32 for a canoe rental at a different outfiter, we would deduct $150 from the purchase price of a new Souris River Canoe.

2. Other Outfitter Try/Buys are only valid the same day or next day from your canoe trip return. We will not honor receipts beyond one day.

3. Other Outfitter Try/Buys are valid for ANY model of canoe you happened to get stuck with by the outfitter. So, if you had to paddle a crappy Brand X or a Tupperware wonder or an Alumabonger, we'll still apply the Try/Buy discount according to the previous stipulations above. You read right - any canoe that you rented. So, when you finally decide to leave the dark side of the force, you can do so with dignity by getting a Souris River Canoe - plus you save 150 bucks!

*Red Rock Wilderness Store reserves the right to amend or discontinue the above policies at our discretion.

All Try-Buys end on August 31 because we'll be selling all used rental canoes beginning then. Gotta come up in September? You can STILL demo right here on Jasper Lake and it's STILL FREE! You can also apply the Other Outfitter Rental Try/Buy Option as well. Have questions or want to reserve a canoe?
